Many People Seek Therapy Because They Feel Stuck
They may feel overwhelmed by life, frustrated by patterns they cannot seem to change, or exhausted from trying to manage challenges on their own. Some are struggling with addiction. Others are navigating the challenges of ADHD.
Many are experiencing both.
At Northern Therapeutic Alliance, therapy is tailored to the individual. The focus is on helping people better understand themselves, develop practical strategies that work in the real world, and create meaningful and lasting change.
The goal is to build a life that feels more manageable, more fulfilling, and more aligned with the best version of you.
Areas of Support
Addiction
Addiction can impact every area of life including relationships, work, finances, physical health, and emotional wellbeing. Many people find themselves caught in cycles they genuinely want to change but cannot seem to break on their own.
Therapy focuses on understanding what is driving the addiction, developing healthier coping strategies, and building sustainable pathways towards recovery.
ADHD
Many adults with ADHD spend years feeling frustrated that life seems harder than it should. They often know they are capable of more but struggle with focus, organisation, emotional regulation, impulsivity, and procrastination.
Therapy focuses on helping people understand how their mind works, building practical systems that support success, and learning how to work with their strengths rather than constantly fighting against them.
A Practical and Collaborative Approach
Therapy should feel useful.
Whilst insight is important, understanding a problem is only one part of the process. Lasting change often requires practical strategies, accountability, and a clear understanding of what is getting in the way.
Shannon's approach is collaborative, person-centred, and tailored to the individual. He believes clients are the experts in their own lives and works alongside them to better understand the patterns, habits, beliefs, and coping mechanisms that may no longer be serving them.
His work draws on a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and 12 Step Recovery principles.

Meet Shannon
Hi, I'm Shannon.

I'm an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with more than 15 years of experience supporting people through addiction, ADHD, anxiety, and a range of mental health challenges.
My work is influenced by psychiatrist Irvin Yalom's idea that therapists should "create a new therapy for each patient." I believe effective therapy requires flexibility, collaboration, and recognising that every person has a unique story, set of strengths, and challenges.

With over fifteen years of specialised experience in drug and alcohol rehabilitation, adult ADHD, and addiction recovery, I deeply understand the complex challenges my clients face. My approach focuses on providing practical, evidence-based support that empowers individuals to understand themselves, build lasting confidence, and create meaningful change.
